Yes, agree and well put. Another important development in the current backlash is another technological innovation: the birth control pill. This, and related technologies, have effectively separated "sex" from "reproduction" for much of the world's population. This, in turn, made possible the movement for women's rights and for LGBTQ rights. We, collectively, are not going back (no matter how much "trad wife" propaganda gets pushed), and this, too, is what the far right is angry about the world over.

Another well written and informative piece Mark, from a similar background myself from the black country, I have seen and lived through the same past, luckily the school I attended in the sixties opened my eyes to other possibilities, moving into service industries, rather than the heavy industry of my childhood area, it has been a roller coaster of emotions and life, the uncertainty and continual change, and continued education, as the workplace and life evolved, but it was not the devastation that my region experienced, and has never recovered from , feeding the despair and anxiety, and anger against the loss of their past , and place in society and their attraction to the easy answers of facism despite every family having lost members to the charlatans who enchanted the world with their easy answers,

Bile and hatred of others last time, I fear the solution will have to be the same if we hesitate to provide alternatives.
