This is very positive. I hope you are right. I believe, based on my experience of UK politics since around 1960, that you are right. A hopeful outlook for the rest of this parliament.
Several reasons why Farage was never going to get to Downing Street
* the majority of Brits, including journos, know he's a repellent clown.
* Murdoch & co will opt for the obvious winners and shun the obvious losers.
* Brits have learned how to do tactical voting in order to beat the far right and fascists.
* Murdoch can see a Burnham government acting responsibly and doing things for the good of the country, unlike the failed Tories and the ridiculous far right.
* The majority of Brits, unlike the voters in Clacton and some small towns, are anti-fascist and crying out for social democratic governance that will make a real difference to their lives. They want more equality, not tax-cutting rabble rousing. More social housing, better public services and taxes on the megarich.
* The exposure of Farage & Tice by good journalists means they can never be taken seriously and never again get favourable exposure on the BBC and UK media.
The press have a massive influence on politics and as most proprietors of the newspapers in this country are right wing and self-interested eg the likes of Murdoch and Rothermere. Farage has had an inordinate amount of press coverage. Reform has 8 MPs less and the LibDems 72 but for some unknown reason Reform get masses of publicity and Rupert Lowe a repulsive character is getting column inches too. I believe in free speech and believe that banning just pushes it underground to fester and grow. I like to see the repugnant racists and hard right thugs ie Yaxley Lennon and co. fail miserably. I hope that you are right Mark as I want to see the likes of Reform, Restore and all the vile hard right decline and have an ignominious fall into the sewer from which they came.
