Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots at a British-flagged yacht in the English Channel, just outside British territorial waters. British and French ships mobilised in response.

Russian fighter jets came within a few hundred metres of the border of NATO member Sweden on two separate occasions. Gripen fighter jets were scrambled. Swedish Armed Forces Chief of Operations Ewa Skoog Haslum said: “The purpose of this could be to test our preparedness.”

Two Russian assets were sentenced for a Moscow-backed plot to set fire to two properties and a car linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The arson attacks were backed by a propaganda campaign directed by Moscow and spread by UK Far Right activists.

Semyon Skrepetsky, a political cartoonist well-known for lampooning Putin, was assassinated in the Polish city of Biała Podlaska. He was shot in the parking area of a residential building.

All of these incidents happened in the last few days. Despite Putin’s repeated assertions that he has no intention of attacking Europe, the facts tell a different story. Russia is already at war with Europe and has been for a long time.

Intelligence services know they’re at war. Governments do too. It just hasn’t filtered through to the wider population. But sooner or later everyone is going to have to accept the fact because it’s only going to get worse.

And that has repercussions not just for Europe, but also for the US.
