Trump does have power, especially within the party. Congress does not really want to oppose him for fear of being primaried by even more loyal Trumpists. American electoral politics means he is either not running for re-election again or if he is going to violate the constitution and do it, he is just going to CARE. I can't see him resigning voluntarily--it would put him at some minor risk.
I wonder if Trump has the mental capacity to understand that he’s passing into Charley Kirk country, where you’re more valuable to your “friends” dead than alive. I’ve been suggesting a scenario around his resignation since long before the Iran fiasco - tho my model was based on late in his tenure , before he goes , him pardoning 100’s of people- especially his whole family and close associates- he isn’t going to let Joe Biden get away with mass pardons and he not outdoing that !! With enough time left to resign, Vance to takes over and issues an immediate pardon to Trump - the one person who he himself can’t pardon, and the one guy more than any other in the land, with more to answer for .. in any other world he is facing life in jail. I can’t see an end to his presidency where he is fully vulnerable to the courts - the only other get out , may be deemed mentally unfit to undergo court defence … maybe those doctors who gave him the bone spurs cover for the draft dodges , are still around to sign off that also ??

One of the problems he has is that the disparate factions that brought Trump to the top job (twice) are precisely that: disparate factions. This means that he cannot keep them all sweet and the Balkanisation of his power base is happening even before he is gone.
For example the needs of the oil industry who financed him and the GOP (higher oil prices) are at odds with the needs of the rest of the US economy (stability and low inflation) and as the gap widens everyone has to decide which side they are on.
I look a little farther down the road, when support for Israel has almost completely eroded in the west and Iran has improved its position to the point where it is willing to risk a ground war with Israel.
